About Southwest Tech
A casual tech meetup for the southwest of Western Australia.
Southwest Tech is a new initiative — and right now, an experiment. We’re trying to find out if there are enough people in the southwest who’d show up to something like this and want to keep it going.
The first event is a simple test of interest. If people come along, enjoy it, and want more — we’ll keep running them. The plan is every six weeks, but how often we meet will depend on how things go.
There’s no grand organisation behind this, no committee, no budget. Just someone who moved to the region, noticed the gap, and decided to see if others felt the same way.
If you’re interested, showing up is the best thing you can do.
Who can come along
Anyone with a curiosity for technology. That includes:
- Hobbyists and tinkerers
- Software developers and coders
- People building out home automation setups
- Cloud and networking folks
- Anyone following AI and where it’s all heading
- People who are just tech-curious
No professional credentials required. No gatekeeping. Just bring yourself.
The format
We keep it simple. Show up, grab a drink, find someone interesting to talk to. Sometimes people bring a laptop to show something off. Sometimes there’s a loose topic floating around. Mostly it’s just good conversation.
Sessions will last as long as people are enjoying themselves and want to stick around — we’re not watching the clock. That said, we’ll work within whatever the venue allows in terms of hours and availability.
Frequency will start at every six weeks and adjust based on interest.
18+ only
Southwest Tech events are for people aged 18 and over. We’ll be using licensed venues, and at this early stage we’re simply not set up to handle the additional responsibilities that come with including minors. That may change down the track, but for now this is where we’re starting.
Why the southwest?
There’s a genuine gap. Perth has a solid tech community but there’s nothing in between for the people who’ve moved to the region, are working remotely, running their own thing, or just living here and missing that sense of community around technology.
Southwest Tech exists to fill that gap.

Who is this guy?
Southwest Tech was started by Keiran, a technology professional working in the cloud and AI infrastructure space — and a relatively recent transplant from NSW to the Southwest.
A tech geek by nature, he spends his time working with Linux, cloud, AI, and home automation projects, among plenty of other things. Mostly he’s just keen to meet more people in the region who are into the same stuff.
